Library Cleaner icon

Free up space in your Final Cut Pro libraries.

Library Cleaner finds your libraries and removes the files Final Cut Pro can rebuild on its own. By default everything goes to the Trash, so you can put it back if you change your mind.

How it works

1

Choose a folder

The app looks for Final Cut Pro libraries, subfolders included.

2

See the space

For each library you see the total size and how much each category takes.

3

Clean up

Pick libraries and categories. Files go to the Trash and stay there until you empty it.

What it cleans

Only files that Final Cut Pro can rebuild when it needs them.

Render Files

Render previews of your timelines.

Analysis Files

Data from clip and audio analysis.

Transcoded Media

Proxy and optimized media.

Danger zone: Original Media

These are the files copied into the library. Final Cut Pro does not rebuild them: if you remove them, the clips that use them go offline.

That’s why they are never included by default. You have to pick them every time and confirm by typing the library name. Links created with “Leave files in place” are never touched.

Careful by design

  • It only touches what’s inside those folders. The folders stay, and so do the library database and every other file.
  • Before touching anything, it checks again that the library hasn’t changed.
  • It only works while Final Cut Pro is closed. You can see Final Cut Pro’s status live.
  • By default everything goes to the Trash: use “Put Back” in the Finder to restore it. The space is freed when you empty the Trash.
